At LOVE in the Garden, the mastheaders were NOMA director Susan Taylor, who made rounds with husband Paolo Meozzi, the eponymous Sydney and Walda Besthoff, Silver Sponsor Gloria S. Kabacoff, event co-chairwomen Annie Flettrich and Jennifer Shelnutt, NOMA board president Cammie Mayer with Charles, NOMA Volunteer Committee chairwoman Kimberly Zibilich (with Keith), and the 2011 honorees; artists Andy Brott, Mari de Petro, Kathleen Loe, Ayo Scott and Julie Silvers.

Among the evening’s many highlights were cuisine and cocktails from more than 30 restaurants, two new sculptures (including the gold “Diana, The Huntress, ” by Augustus Saint-Gaudens), gondola rides courtesy of Robert Guidry of NOLA Gondola, and the Firefly Vodka Garden, that contained amazing works of art by Scot Evert and Dave Fleming. Made of solid steel and hand-blown glass, the fireflies were lighted, changing colors throughout the night.

Various decorations both at the patron party and the main merriment were the big, beautiful floral arrangements at the sculpture garden’s entrance done by Pam Rogers and Carol Hall, gold and silver table overlays, tiki-torch illumination of the lagoon, centerpieces of alternating gold and silver pots filled with rocks and moss with fresh ivy, and gold and silver ribbon that wrapped the stanchions. Hung in the large oak trees were gold and silver Japanese lanterns.

Gathering for “Garden 2011” and social LOVE — remember the event gets its name from the red and blue Robert Indiana sculpture — were Michael Mann, Kelly Theard, Gabriela Ribas, Brenda and Michael Moffitt, Margaret Maxwell and daughter Meredith, Kay McArdle, Dana and Steve Hansel, Elizabeth “Liz” and John Ryan, Jennifer and John Rowland, JoAnn Greenberg, Bernice and Donald Daige, Grace Wilson, Anne Gauthier and Sanford Pailet, Brian Schneder and Jacki Schneider, Janis van Meerveld, Sally Richards, family and friends of the honorees, and scores more who celebrated the museum’s centennial year and the first day of fall by dancing and dining under century-old oak trees. To add the musical fillip, the Mike Kobrin Band was tapped for the patrons’ hobnobbing, and the Mixed Nuts (and all their antics) for the Garden gallivanting.
